    * Puppet Show *
        More than three hundred years ago, puppet handler Master A-wan followed Koxinga's army to Taiwan and settled down in Mi-tuo Township. He passed down the performing art of puppet shows to five disciples and opened up the puppet industry in Taiwan. Even though we cannot verify the legend, judging from the history over the past hundreds of years, Mi-tuo Township has indeed an irreplaceable status in the development of Taiwan's puppet shows.

      Mi-tuo is an important town for Taiwan's puppet shows and is thus nicknamed Puppet Show Hut. From its geography, Mi-tuo is connected to Gangshan and Lu-jhu. According to memories of the old puppet artists, there were hundreds of puppet show groups in the late Qing Dynasty and early Min-Guo, but they were limited to Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pintung regions in Southern Taiwan; they were extremely rare in Mid and Northern Taiwan, which could be related to the congregation of immigrants. Following the transformation of society structure, the uprising of entertainment media has replaced the development space of traditional drama. Taiwan puppet shows have also been slowly disappearing; so far there are only five traditional puppet show groups who are still active in Kaohsiung County. These groups are specifically Tung-hua and He-sing in Da-she, Fu-de in Gangshan, and Yung-sing-le and Fu-sing-ge in Mi-tuo. To this date, there are only the Fu-sing-ge and Yung-sing-le puppet show groups in Mi-tuo
