Mi-tuo fishery farming is the primary source of income for the township. These fisheries also provide a great feeding environment for night herons. And the mangroves at the public gutter area also provide a fine habitat. According to bird lovers' observation, Mi-tuo fishery farming pools are mostly visited by little egrets and night herons. Sometimes there are also other migratory birds who entered the fisheries by accident, but it rarely happens.
As the name entails, night herons are water birds who rest at night and are active during the day. They are shy in nature, possess high alertness with a height of about 60 cm. Besides during the reproduction period, they spend most of the time resting by the mangroves or the hedgerows (egret cave) at the coastal recreation area. Night herons are common resident birds or transitory birds found in Taiwan, and they can also been seen all over Europe, Asia and Africa.
